Searching for the sound
Ben and Phil @ Bookends, April 29, 2005
I've known who Phil Lesh is since the mid-1980s. I remember being situated or finding myself in, or making my way into The Phil Zone at a Grateful Dead concert on many occasions. The Phil Zone was the area to the left of the soundboard but not quite as far as the left stack of speakers. To be in the Zone was to be in that sweet spot of sound where you felt the bass notes rumbling from the stage into the core of your body. When Phil was dropping bombs, there was no better place to be than in The Phil Zone.
Today, I occasionally see Phil Lesh perform with his friends. I saw Phil and Friends perform at the Beacon Theater on my birthday, and my seat was in the front row. That was a wonderful experience and I will post the photos shortly.
This picture was taken at Bookends in Ridgewood, New Jersey, a suburban enclave in Bergen County. It was a pleasure to meet Phil and thank him for past, present, and future music to come. I look forward to seeing Phil and Friends on the East Coast in November.
I think that you might be able to download some Phil Lesh and Friends (and latter-day Dead) music here.

Not sure if you know, but Phil also had his book published in audiobook format.
It's very cool as Phil did his own narration, and there is also a bunch of music weaved in to the soundtrack.
I purchased the audiobook here: http://www.anearforbooks.com/Title.aspx?titleId=1786
But you can find it elsewhere on the web as well.
It really brings the story to life to hear Phil read it.
